Episode 60: Progressive Leadership Stage 1

In Episode 60, Lance refreshes the screen about leadership and reminds of us the basic five stages of leadership, what it means to be a leader at each stage, and how to grow as someone wanting influence with others. In this podcast, Lance identifies Stage 1, the Positional Stage.

Lance’s passions:

  1. For people to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

  2. For people to live as powerful sons and daughters of God.

  3. For people to fulfill their purpose and calling as a community, with healthy relationships. I call that family.

  4. For people who want to lead to do so in a healthy and empowered way.

So, much of what I talk about in this podcast will be related to one of these four areas.

  1. Position Stage - Right

  2. Permission Stage - Relationship

  3. Production Stage - Results

  4. People Stage - Reproduction

1. Position Stage - (Rights)

  1. Know your job role thoroughly.

    • Know your job description thoroughly.

    • What is a win?

    • Where do you need clarity?

    • What resources have you been given?

    • Where are the decision making boundaries?

    • In what way does your company policies and procedures support you being successful in your job role?

    • Knowledge matters.

  2. Accept Responsibility.

    • For development of self.

    • For development of others.

    • For projects getting completed.

    • Responsibility is an inside job.

  3. Fulfill your job role with consistent excellence.

    • What is excellent?

    • Has that been defined for you?

    • Excellence in personal life and professional life.

    • How you present yourself is your biggest message on excellence.

      • Hygiene

      • Clothes, ironed, fit, match

      • Colors that complement your skin tone

      • Your car

    • What are the hindrances to consistency?

      • Physical

      • Emotional

      • Relational

      • Financial

      • Organizational

    • Excellence is an inside job.

  4. Do more than expected.

    • Make sure that you doing more than expected is not taking work away from someone else’s expectation.

    • Show up early. Stay late.

    • Look for things to be done.

    • Make a list of small projects that you normally can’t get to, so if you have down time or some sudden free time, you’ve got a list prepared to work on.

    • Add value to people. Doing that you will add value to the company.

    • Hark work matters.

  5. Offer creative ideas for change and improvement.

    • If you see a problem, offer a solution.

    • Stay hungry.

    • Hustle.

    • Invest in others and the company (People investment. Policy investment.)

    • Be a humble, steady learner.

  2. What stage of leadership am I currently in with other influencers on my team or within my company?

  3. What will I commit to be, learn and do, so I can grow through the stages with those that I lead?
