CHRIST WITH US

accompanied by another

Bob Goff shares a story in his book - “Everybody, Always”, about learning to sky dive and surprising his son. At several thousand feet, his son Adam jumps out. Bob was so excited that he abandoned his training and just leaped out of the plane to be with Adam. As Bob describes the story, he jumped so hard that he actually jumped out of his shoes. Can you imagine that? Have you ever jumped so hard that you literally jumped out of your shoes? According to several New Testament passages, Philipians 2 being a primary one, we see that Jesus leaped out of Heaven to be with us and while He didn’t jump out of His shoes, He did jump out of “godness”. How do you respond to a God who jumped out of His “godness” to be with us? Matthew 1:21-23 tells us of the heavenly pronouncement concerning the Christ child. The angelic hosts tells us that He will be called Immanuel - God with us. Also, they proclaim joy over us. This is a staggering reality. Therefore, we worship, pray and commune with a God who is near to us. He said that He would never leave us nor abandon us. Whatever situation you are facing, take some time and consider how God wants you to know that you are not alone, but you are accompanied by another - Jesus Christ.

QUESTIONS

  1. What can you do today to remind yourself that God is with you, every second of this day?

  2. How does the fact that Jesus abandoned His “godness” influence your prayer, worship and abiding in Jesus?

  3. Have you believed a lie about God abandoning you? If so, write it down, pray breaking all the power of those lies and then declare the truth that God is with you and that He will never leave you.

ACTION STEP

Before you start your day, take sixty seconds and ask Holy Spirit to give you a picture of what it looks like for Jesus to be with you throughout the day.
