MY STORY
son | husband | father | servant | leader
Hello! Thanks for checking out my website. Let me share with you some things about my journey. I am married to Darlene, the love of my life. We’ve been married 30+ years. We have three kids and two granddaughters - Matt, our oldest son who is married to our daughter-in-love, Brittany; our daughter, Sara is married to Niko and expecting their first child; and Luke, our youngest son. Matt and Brittany have twin daughters. Matt, Brittany, Sara and Niko are in their 20’s. Luke is in high school. I love Jesus, reading, great conversations and a smooth and simple black tea (with cream and sugar in the winter).
I was raised in a loving home, but not a Christ-centered home. I can’t recall hearing about the love Jesus has for me and my need and desire for a relationship with Him until I was nearly 20. Then in Northeast Arkansas, I surrendered my life to Jesus. I not only gave Him my life, but He gave me His. So for 32+ years I have been a devout follower of Jesus with a passionate heart to serve people, families and people groups, while helping them discover the truth of God’s love, His power and His heart.
I see darkness in our world. Terrorism. Greed. Poverty. Trafficking. Violence…
I see light in our world. Hope. Freedom. Joy. Peace. Grace. Mercy…
I view the world through the lens of hope and believe that each problem is an opportunity to grow, to learn and to help. Therefore, as I think about my spiritual awakening and viewing the world with hope it leads me to believe in the potential of the Church. I believe the Church is a family where we should experience unconditional love and acceptance. I believe the Church is a house, shining as a beacon of hope and joy that draws people. I also believe that the Church is a body outworking the heart of God on the earth. That’s why I love the Church. That’s why I serve her. I grew up longing for unconditional love and acceptance. I wanted to live with hope. I wanted to be a part of something larger than my own life. When I found Christ, I found those things. Therefore, I believe in the Church - that collection of the “whosoevers”, and her potential to change the world. What you and I share in common is that life has to be about more than jobs, vacations, bills, movies, outdoor BBQs and traffic jams. We were born for a cause - to be part of a movement that changes the landscape of society for the better. We were born to be a part of God’s kingdom, to serve Him and to make Him known among the nations of the earth. Having traveled overseas, I can assure you that the longing for a sense of belonging is global. Everyone wants to belong. Everyone wants to know their purpose. Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” It's my hope that you discover the greatness of God within you and share that greatness with the world.
Anchored in Christ,
Lance
