Episode 43: Moving People Forward - Part 5
Continuing our series on helping people move forward by building a learning environment, Lance reminds us that a learning environment is a caring environment. A caring leader helps others move forward in their character growth and purpose fulfillment. Take a listen and learn about the four types of a heart that will create a caring, learning environment.
Notes:
We talk a great deal on this podcast about the “how-to’s” of leadership and helping people. I believe that leadership has to look like something. Today, as we talk about moving people forward, I want to share some insight with you about how caring for people is transformational and supportive.
Ryder Carroll says, in his book, The Bullet Journal Method, “Our efforts are always fueled by some promise.” [2]
The promise I want you to consider today is that God cares for us and has given us a purpose to love and care for others.
1 Peter 5:6-8, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
What resists our forward movement:
Pride
A weak view of God
Impatience
Self-righteousness
Independence
Inability to receive the love of God
The Devil
To be a caring leader you need:
A Loving Heart
Experience God’s Fatherly love
Grow in compassion
Communicate love in simple ways
Be interested in people more than rightness, programs or productivity
Remember - people are our pleasure
A Trustworthy Heart
Be a person of confidentiality
Hold others accountable
Be honest
Express the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, meekness, self-control, faithfulness)
A Listening Heart
Speak value to others
Be with people
Embrace silence
Have confidence in God’s working
An Observant Heart
Walk slowly among people
Pay attention to your body language
Encourage with a smile
Observe details in people’s lives
5 Ways to Demonstrate Caring Leadership:
Show up. (Hospital, emergencies, significant moments)
Remember significant days (birthdays, anniversaries, promotions)
Speak love languages. (time, gifts, touch, acts of service, words)
Eye contact, lean forward, body language, tone
Help others be successful. (vision, growth, feedback, connection, network)
